U10 girls @ Dereham, Sunday 25th March – A team 1st, B team 7th from 9 teams entered

We had a great day not just because of the the result which does help but because of the organisation and hospitality laid on by Dereham. And they laid on great weather too.

The girls in both our teams were gracious in victory and, for the B team, positive and a credit to themselves and the club in defeat.

A Team Report

We did also play some great hockey. We were lucky with  playing only one A team in our group that being Dereham and then Pelicans B and Norwich B.  We won against Dereham 3-0. We then played Pelicans B and beat them 2-0 and then in the last group game against Norwich B and won 2-1.

Throughout the group games we played some of our best hockey this season using the full width of the pitch and passing crisply to each other. Goals through these games were from Molly, Georgie, Faith, Pheobe and Amelia.

Cutting over to the

B Team Report

By contrast to the A team the B team had to face three strong A teams and acquitted themselves well growing in stature as the games progressed. They were by no means outclassed losing 4-0 to Norwich A, 2-0 Norfolk Dragons (a much closer game than the score suggests), and 3-0 against Pelis. In particular the senior team members provided a solid foundation and the more junior members raised their game. The 4th v 4th was a very well deserved 1-0 win with a lot of good hockey throughout.

And, given the rather competitive nature of the opening game against Norwich A not only for the A team but B team too …

Back to the A team report and Martin…

… the icing on the cake was the final against Norwich A. This was without a doubt the best game of under 10 hockey I've seen. Every player used the ball well and kept position throughout the game. We dominated the game and had several chances to score if it were not for good goal-keeping from the Norwich keeper. We were able to turn defence into attack and were rewarded with a good goal from Amelia nearing the end of the game.

This has been an excellent way of bring the season to close apart from the forth-coming Watton tournament on the 29th of April and I am sure the girls who move up to the under 12s next season will be a valuable asset.
